Surprise, surprise
Rarely has a horse been better named than Surprise, purchased for Lyn Summers to school on in dressage and show jumping
Bought out of a field, the big upstanding chestnut certainly looked the part, but the Dutch 5 year old proved a real box of tricks.
“We couldn’t get him out of the yard,” said Lyn . “He seemed incapable of going forward. Most people thought he wanted a good thrashing, but we didn’t feel that was the answer and got an iridologist to look in his eyes – or try to.”“He kept closing his eyes. The iridologist diagnosed a serious calcium and magnesium deficiency, possibly because he was hand reared as we later found, and he hated the light shining into his eyes. Basically he could hardly see.”
“We cleaned his system with liver herbs, and started special treatments to correct the mineral deficiencies.”
“Gradually he started going forward. For a long time he still had a haze in his eyes, but that’s 99% gone now and he is a different horse, although still on a cocktail of liver herbs and tie-up tamer as he produces a lot of lactic acid.”
Eighteen months on the difference is amazing. Surprise is show jumping, and his dressage is so promising that he qualified for the regional finals on his first outing.

Moody mare that turned the corner
Few horses demonstrate the benefit of Silver Lining Herbs better than The Trout, the failed racehorse the Summers happily admit was a complete nutcase when they bought her
Moody, nervous and totally unable to concentrate on any job in hand, the bay TB was also very difficult to keep weight on.
“We basically went through three years of hell with her” recalls Lyn “Probably the turning point was at a local hunter trial. We scraped round in the pairs, then she walloped me in the face, I came off and she ended up on the road. I phoned Johnny and told his this mare’s going to kill someone, probably me.
“We turned to an iridologist to try and identify the problems. The mare was diagnosed with an inherited kidney weakness, which could have explained why she always ran out of steam in her racing days, and was probably in constant discomfort.”
“She was incapable of standing still for long and always rushed back into her box to urinate after exercise. We started her on kidney herbs and could see a difference within four days.We then supported her mind with relaxer tonics and hold her together now with special Silver Lining training mix.
Johnny, who only started riding in recent years, did three intro events and a pre novice with her.
With two dressage points also under her belt, The Trout is competing this summer with up and coming event rider Chloe Newton, highest placed young rider at Burghley 2005.

“Hi Mickey (Young)
I don’t want to take up much of your time, but would like to thank you for the help you’ve given us again. We have another success story. To refresh your memory, about 4 weeks ago my Dad’s favorite mare was kicked by one of her pasture mates. It shattered the rear splint bones like a spider’s web. We took her to be X-rayed. Again it was doom and gloom. They were certain that the bones would not heal and that she would require surgery to have the bone fragments removed. The only thing they were not sure of was how well she would mend and they talked about other negative factors like infection, future soundness and so on. We placed her on your Infection Fighter, Immune Builder and Feet Relief. It’s been four weeks and we hard her X-rayed again today to see how she was mending. Much to our delight the bones are all ending fine, she will NOT require surgery and is walking really well on that leg. Thanks for all your help and such great products
“Dear Mr. Young, I have written to you several times recently for help and advice for my appaloosa are, Dixie , in her fight against EPM. I would like you to know that her improvement over the last week to 10 days has been nothing short of a miracle. Her un-coordination is barely perceptible, even at a trot. Her mood and appetite have greatly improved and she is my old Dixie again, bright, friendly and quite bossy, demanding treats and attention. I can only attribute the changes to your wonderful products
